A friend said I post too much about food, so here is another entry. :)
Spoiled milk? Actually, it’s kefir, a fermented milk beverage. A woman from my mother-in-law’s church gave her some kefir grains. These are a combination of yeast and bacteria, which work together to make kefir. These are placed in a jar which is then filled with milk. After about a day you end up with kefir, which tastes sort of like buttermilk.
Now we have some of the grains and are making kefir ourselves.

After several attempts, they finally turned out more or less like I remember. Well, I can’t get a can of Rosarita refried beans here. Besides, fresh refried beans taste better.
